Bargaining over prices of goods is a norm in Malaysia, and to Sara-Jane, no one has mastered the skill better than her grandmother. Not only does she usually manage to bring the price down by up to 20 percent, but often coaxes the shop owners to throw in some freebies as well. This, to Sara-Jane, is one of the many little quirks of everyday life that keeps our country interesting.

MyTeksi has been asking Malaysians what Merdeka means to them. Sara-Jane says:

“Independence means having the freedom to become a country and nation with an identity that is truly and uniquely ours.”
